Salt Tablets | Softener Salt
Recrystallized NaCl Tablets

Salt tablets play a vital role in industrial water treatment systems, particularly in water softening and ion‑exchange processes. From a chemical engineering perspective, their function is to ensure efficient, stable, and repeatable resin regeneration, which is essential for protecting downstream equipment.
🔬 How Salt Tablets Work
In ion‑exchange water softeners, hardness ions such as calcium (Ca²⁺) and magnesium (Mg²⁺) are exchanged with sodium ions (Na⁺) on the resin surface. As the resin becomes saturated, its performance declines.
Salt tablets dissolve gradually in the brine tank, producing a high‑purity sodium chloride solution that regenerates the resin by replacing hardness ions with sodium ions. This restores the resin’s full softening capacity.
⚙️ Why Tablet Form Matters
Compared to loose salt, salt tablets offer:
- Controlled and uniform dissolution
- Stable brine concentration
- Low insoluble content
- Reduced risk of bridging and system blockage
These characteristics lead to consistent regeneration cycles and predictable system performance.
🏭 Key Industrial Applications
- Boiler feed water treatment – prevents scale and improves thermal efficiency
- Cooling towers & HVAC systems – minimizes fouling and heat transfer loss
- RO pretreatment – protects membranes from hardness scaling
